Red Snapper season 2017
It’s that time of year again, red snapper season. Many of you have heard of the recreational season in federal waters going from 9 days last year to 3 days this year. The reduction in days is thanks to the five gulf states for extended seasons within their state waters which extend to 9 miles. Louisiana and Mississippi getting their state waters extended from 3 miles previously, to 9 miles is another factor in the equation. Fortunately the charter for hire fleet through lots of hard work, has secured a percentage of its historical access for its customers in federal waters with 49 days. We also have access to gag grouper with its June 1st opening and red grouper are still open year round. This is especially helpful for the boats that do not have a state fishery and rely on the federal waters for 100% of its access. There have been quite a few lane snapper being caught and the mangrove snapper are showing up in better numbers. So grab some friends and lets go fishing to secure your share of red snapper while time lasts.
